Leap’s Leadership courses are offered to young people
on remand, or convicted, in Young Offenders’ Institutions
and the officers who work with them.
They give the young people the chance to challenge their established
attitudes and assess how they could alter their lives on release.
Prison Officers are involved in developing a framework with
young prisoners, supporting them in dealing constructively with
conflict on their units.
Independent studies have shown that young people who participate
increase their self-esteem and are less hostile to others. Publication
of the programme work is due in 2004/5, as Through the Walls,
with the National Youth Agency and we are working towards
developing London Open College Network accreditation for the
programme.
“The workshop has been a breath of fresh air in my life.
I have realised that now is the time for change. I can forgive
my hurts and pains but I do not have to forget them.”

“What I liked about the workshop was that for once in
my life I was working with a group of people who really understood
what I’d been through.”
