PeerLink 2009-1

Leap stands for the leap of creativity, the leap into the unknown and the leap of change that we all have to make in confronting conflict.

Leap offers specialist training and development for frontline professionals engaged in working with young people.

Leap Youth Programmes deliver structured projects working directly with young people aged 11 to 21 years – in schools, in communities, in youth centres and on urban estates.

We offer:

  • Youth Programmes
  • Qualifications through The Leap Academy of Youth and Conflict
  • Training and Consultancy for Organisations, Teams and Services

Current projects are:

  • Pathfinder Youth project
  • Quarrel Shop programme with young trainers and apprentices projects
  • PeerLink conflict resolution/peer mediation network and support project
  • Fear and Fashion project – reducing knife crime
  • Leadership and Reconciliation project
  • Preventing Racist violence project

The Leap Academy of Youth and Conflict offers specialist training and development for frontline professionals engaged in working with young people. The Academy runs a calendar of standardised and certificated adult training courses and qualifications and additional seminars and master classes.

Setting up Action research programmes keeps our work contemporary and relevant – currently we are working on a programme called Crossing Frontlines – and with the learning from these we can continue to create and publish practical manuals, packs and resources for dissemination.

Leap also offers specially tailored training and consultancy to organisations, teams and services.

Capacity

Leap has more than 40 specialist trainers, young trainers and youth project workers.

In 2009, we worked with over 7,150 young people, trained 1,900 adults and added value to 270 organisations.
The cascade effect of this will reach a further 40,000 young people.

Leap delivers from its bases in London, Scotland and Yorkshire and responds to requests and needs from across the UK. In London we have our own training and meeting space.

You may be looking for a new framework for thinking about conflict, or new tools and techniques for working with challenging behaviour; you could be a school looking to embed conflict resolution; you may have a group of young people who’d benefit from peer mediation, gangs or conflict resolution training, or you might want to create better communication between groups and cultures.

Leap has the specialist skills and experience to help.
