Understanding conflict

Courses available currently:

  • Working with Challenging Behaviour examines how the challenging behaviour of the young people you work with impacts on you
  • Playing with Fire: a comprehensive 10-day course for practitioners working directly with young people who wish to develop professional and personal skills in dealing with conflict situations


Working with Challenging Behaviour 

This is a one-day introductory course for practitioners working directly with young people. It is an experiential and highly participatory course providing you with the opportunity to develop your skills in dealing with conflict situations you may encounter in your work with young people.

  • to identify and develop key skills in working with challenging behaviour

course includes

  • Defining what challenging behaviour means for you
  • Examining your triggers in conflict situations
  • Exploring how you get trapped into reacting in ways you don’t like
  • Examining anger and the feelings underlying it
  • Identifying support needs in working with challenging behaviour

Playing with Fire

This comprehensive a ten-day course, run over three modules.  It is suitable for practitioners working directly with young people who wish to develop professional and personal skills and resources to deal with conflict situations. It is an experiential and highly participatory course.

aims

  • To develop your ability to work with conflict creatively and constructively, particularly as it applies to working with young people.

course includes

  • Increasing your awareness of your own relationship to conflict and your habitual responses in conflict situations.
  • Increasing your understanding of the interpersonal dynamics of conflict (particularly in relation to anger, enemy thinking, persistent thought patterns, and issues of power and powerlessness).
  • Sharing ideas, exercises and approaches you can use in your one-to-one and group work with young people and adults.
  • An introduction to mediation skills as a tool for working with conflict.
  • Rehearsing strategies for working more effectively with challenges.
  • Identifying your support needs in working with conflict.

Participants are expected to attend all ten days of this course.
